Injection treatments for moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines).
Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) is a prescription injection approved by the FDA in 2009 to improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines. Dysport is injected into five areas around the eyebrows, including the corrugator muscle and the procerus muscle. Localized treatments work by blocking nerve signals to the muscle, reducing the appearance of frown lines. See Dysport before and after photos & FAQs.
Dysport is a prescription-only injection used to treat moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults less than 65 years of age. Dysport contains abobotulinumtoxinA (Botulinum toxin type A), is made from a bacteria that causes botulism. Botulinum toxins block nerve activity in the muscles, causing a temporary reduction in muscle activity. Your untreated facial muscles will still function normally, and facial expressions such as smiling, in untreated areas will not be affected.
How long does Dysport last?
Dysport® works to block the signal from the nerve to the muscles for up to four months.
How many Dysport treatments are needed?
A single treatment will show results. Typically Dysport is injected into 5 spots between and above your eyebrows to block the signal from the nerve to the muscles, resulting in a reduction of muscle activity and temporarily preventing contraction of the muscles that cause frown lines. You should wait at least 90 days between Dysport treatments.
What are the safety considerations concerning Dysport?
Possible side effects of Dysport injections include nose and throat irritation, headache, injection site pain, injection site skin reaction, upper respiratory tract infection, eyelid swelling, eyelid drooping, sinus inflammation, and nausea. These problems can happen within hours, or days to weeks after an injection of Dysport. Call your doctor or get medical help right away if you have any of these problems after treatment with Dysport. Do not take Dysport if you are allergic to cow's milk protein, or if you have had an allergic reaction to any other botulinum toxin product such as Myobloc®(rimabotulinumtoxinB), Botox® (onabotulinumtoxinA) or Xeomin®(incobotulinumtoxinA). See: additional safety information from Dysport, and review the FDA Medication Guide.
